How do I get a library card?

Library cards are issued at no charge to residents of the Terrace, Thornhill, Rosswood, New Remo, Old Remo, Jackpine Flats, Copperside, Usk, the Nass Valley and all communities east to Chimdemash. Visit the Library and bring a piece of identification with your name and current mailing address. Parents are held responsible for materials borrowed by children.  A parent or legal guardian must sign for children under 15 years of age.

Residents living in the North Coast Library Federation region (Hazelton, Houston, Kitimat, Prince Rupert, Smithers or Stewart) may become members of the Library at no charge upon presention a valid library card from their home library.

Residents living outside of the North Coast Library Federation who have a library membership from any other public library in British Columbia may apply for a BC One Card at no charge. Residents are required to present their home library card to receive this service.

Adults not included in the above scenarios are required to pay a non-refundable membership fee:
$50.00 - For one year
$12.50 - For three months

Where can I return my library items?

You may return your items to any public library in British Columbia or to the North West Community College Library. Items returned to another library will be checked in when they arrive at the Terrace Library. 

How long may I borrow library items?

Books, pamphlets, magazines - 4 weeks
Holiday books - 2 weeks
Cassettes and Compact Discs - 2 weeks
VHS - 7 days
DVDs - 3 days

How many items can I borrow at one time?

Patrons may borrow up to fifty items at any one time but there are limits on the number of items per format.

DVDs - 3 per card
VHS - 7 per card
Books on CD
Books on cassette
Music CDs
CDROMs

What happens when I'm late returning my items?

The Library charges fines for overdue materials:

Adult materials - $0.20/day (Max. $5.00 per item)
Children's materials - $0.05/day (Max. $2.00 per item)
Videos & DVDs - $0.25 per day (Max. $5.00 per item)

Fines must be paid down to below $5.00 in order to take out additional library items.

If you do not return your items the Library may refer your account to a collection agency.

How do I renew my items online?

Visit www.terracelibrary.ca and click on Catalogue and Your Account. Next, click on My Account on the bottom right hand side of the page. Now, enter in your library card and password and click Login.

Click on, Items Checked Out. Select the items you would like to renew and click Renew Selected items.

An item cannot be renewed if another patron has requested it.

An item can only be renewed online twice. If you would like to renew your items for a third time, please contact library staff.

How do I request an Interlibrary loan?

If there is a book or an article that you want and it is not in our collection, ask a staff member or email your request. Staff will attempt to order the item for you from another library in British Columbia or Canada.  Please note that there is a limit of ten concurrent interlibrary loan requests per person.

Does the Library offer public access to the Internet?

The Library offers free access to the Internet through public workstations and a wireless network. Public workstations are available on a first come first serve basis and users are limited to one session per day up to a maximim of sixty minutes. Users of the Library's wireless network must provide their own laptop.
